GET TO KNOW BLAINE

Blaine is married to Joy Dunn, a retired teacher, and has enjoyed living in Virginia since 1976. He is an evangelical Christian and is an active

member of Fellowship Bible Church.  He has been an Eagle Scout, Boy Scout

Commissioner, expedition leader at Philmont, member of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, NRA, and Izaak Walton League of America.  He enjoys mountaineering, sports, cultural events, and historical places.  Having been detained by the East Germans and Russians in Berlin, he fully appreciates the freedom we have in the United States.

CONNECT  WITH BLAINE

As a Frederick County supervisor, Blaine has been Chair of the Human Resources, Code and Ordinance, and Technology committees.  He also has been a member of the Public Safety committee, the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission, and liaison to the Fire and Rescue Association, Tourism Board, Handley Library, and Parks and Rec Commission.  As a supervisor, he has advocated for multiyear budget plans, cost effective spending, and has testified before a Virginia Senate committee on proffer reform and impact fees.  He sponsored and supported the recent Frederick County resolution to reaffirm the Second Amendment rights of citizens.  

POLITICALLY

​Prior to his starting Dunn Financial Advisors, he served as legislative director/staff for congressmen Staton, Marks, and Whalen.  He also has been on the legislative staff for the Environmental Protection Agency and the Rural Electrification Administration.  Before becoming involved in politics, he taught history and was a technical rep for Union Carbide.

Blaine Dunn is the owner and president of Dunn Financial Advisors, LLC. Washington Magazine named Blaine as one of the best 35 financial planners in the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.  He also has served as a Board member, regional chair, and ethics chair for the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Distribution from Clarkson College of Technology and a Master of Arts degree in Diplomatic History from the University of Massachusetts.

  • Elected vice chair of Frederick County Board of Supervisors and served 8 years as Frederick County supervisor.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Supported St. Paul’s on The Hill to develop Senseny Place to create a senior affordable housing project 

  • Supported rezoning applications to allow for business growth in Frederick County

  • Offered a plan to address county population growth without raising real estate taxes

  • Supporter of lower taxes and fiscal responsibly

  • Co-authored 2nd Amendment Resolution reaffirming the right to keep and bear arms.  Spoke against a gun control resolution in Winchester City.

  • Supported Izaak Walton shotgun range Conditional Use Permit

  • Saved historic 18th century Clowser House from demolition 

  • Obtained funding and support to make Frederick Heights park usable and continued expansion for Abrams Creek Trail
